This 'fOtOfilm' is about a young polynesian woman in ancient times and her anguish at the
LOSS OF HER LOVE !!!
NANA literally means in Tahitian 'to waive goodbye' ... but it is mostly used to simply say goodbye.
This is the story about a young woman's love for a young man who has left her to sail off across the great ocean to faraway islands in search of adventure and a new life.
She is heartbroken and spends many days on the beach alone in deep emotional pain. She pleads with the 'Mana' (spiritual force) to bring him back and covers herself in black sand as as an expression of her mourning. She is continually looking out to sea hoping that he will return, but secretly knowing that
she will probably never see him again.
Ocean voyages in ancient times were very dangerous as their pirogues were fragile and they could only navigate by
the stars. So many voyagers who set out to sea never returned.
This is the thirteenth in a series of 'Dreamscapes' photographed in Tahiti June 2010.
